PORT

A split bill Concert feat Shaun Keylock Company
& FACT/SF

Oct 24-26, 2024
New Expressive Works

Shaun Keylock Company presents a split-bill concert with San Francisco-based dance company, FACT/SF.

FACT/SF will perform two Portland premieres: For a, a vibrant, full-bodied, and unrelenting quartet set to Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, and Extra, a playful piece inspired by cheerleading, aerobic gymnastics, jazz routines, and Brat Summer, featuring music by Charli XCX. Both works are directed by Charles Slender-White and performed by Slender-White, Keanu Brady, Katherine Neumann, and LizAnne Roman Roberts.

Also on the program is a new solo choreographed by Artistic Director Shaun Keylock for dancer Eva Crystal, along with the return of Gregg Bielemeier’s Where for ART Thou (1995). Last restaged by SKC in 2021, this fast-moving contemporary dance piece is set to Kevin Volans' String Quartet No. 1 (1986), recorded by the Kronos Quartet, with costumes designed by Adam Arnold.

ABOUT PORT

PORT (Peer Organized Reciprocal Touring) is a touring model that supports increased performance and engagement opportunities for contemporary dance companies from the West Coast and beyond. The model was initially developed by Genevieve Carson and Charles Slender-White in response to the lack of touring opportunities for small and mid-sized dance companies. PORT helps make it possible for dance artists to connect with one another, and to connect with communities and regions that might be otherwise inaccessible.

For the third round of PORT, FACT/SF, Shaun Keylock Company, and ODC Theater are partnering together to support engagements in San Francisco, CA (August 2023) and Portland, OR (Fall 2024).

ABOUT FACT/SF

FACT/SF is a San Francisco-based contemporary dance company, founded in 2008 by Charles Slender-White as a platform for organizing collaborators, building community, and creating choreography. FACT/SF regularly performs in the San Francisco Bay Area, maintains a core group of local collaborators, and has developed an extensive international network of partners. FACT/SF has premiered 42 works, with tours throughout the US, across Russia, and to Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Macedonia. The US Department of State has twice supported FACT/SF’s tours abroad. In 2024, FACT/SF became one of ODC Theater’s five Home Companies.

FACT/SF also runs Fieldwork, a set of programs that nourish the contemporary dance ecology by providing opportunities, support, and material resources to fellow artists. Fieldwork currently includes Production Support Grants, Fiscal Sponsorship, Summer Dance Lab Scholarships, the annual FACT/SF Summer Dance Festival, and a touring platform, PORT (Peer Organized Reciprocal Touring). In 2022, FACT/SF became the first dance company in the US to pay artists to apply to its programs.
