Shaun Keylock Company Finds New Home at Classical Ballet Academy
The newly developed space will include four studios, equipped with sprung flooring, mirrors, dressing rooms, and more.
PORTLAND, OR., March 2, 2024 — Shaun Keylock Company (SKC) announced today that effective March 4th, 2024, the dance troupe will relocate its operations to the newly developed studios of the Classical Ballet Academy, 5516 SE Foster Rd, Portland. This strategic move emphasizes the company's dedication to prioritizing its dancers, accessibility for audiences, and its ongoing archival work and historic projects.
The space includes four studios, equipped with sprung flooring, mirrors, dressing rooms, and a storage space for archives and costumes.
"We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to work closely with Classical Ballet Academy," said Shaun Keylock, Founder and Artistic Director of Shaun Keylock Company. "This move not only gives us access to purpose-built studios made for dance, but also establishes our presence within the Foster-Powell neighborhood, creating a vibrant hub for dance history, creativity, and performance."
From 2020 to 2024, SKC conducted its operations from the historic Baker Building located at 5511 N Albina Ave, Portland. With this recent transition to the Classical Ballet Academy, SKC gains several advantages. This new facility allows both SKC and its parent organization, Conduit Dance, Inc., to rent the academy's state-of-the-art facilities at a reduced cost. Additionally, the move creates a distinctive platform for students, audiences, and community members to actively engage in workshops, classes, and performances, fostering deeper engagement with the professional dance company and its ongoing projects.
Simultaneously, Classical Ballet Academy is in the process of constructing a 200-seat black box theater dedicated exclusively to the performing arts. Anticipated to be completed within the next year, this theater will serve as a valuable resource, providing a venue for the Keylock company to showcase its repertoire and collaborate on future performances.
This collaborative endeavor stands as a testament to the shared vision of both organizations to nurture and advance contemporary dance in the region. By relocating to the Foster-Powell neighborhood, SKC aims to continue to cultivate an inclusive and thriving artistic community while providing unparalleled opportunities for artistic growth and innovation.
